Shrimp junkie chatting to you today. I am the granddaughter and the niece of fishermen and love nothing more than bingeing on as much shrimp as physically possible.
Sadly, I married a shrimp hater. But two out of our three kids share my obsession.
I made sure that when our family visited Orlando back in 2012 that it included a trip to Bubba Gump Shrimp and that if I have a starter when we eat out, that a shrimp cocktail is always my first thought.
I was over the moon, when my parents introduced me to a Brazilian buffet back in 2009. Can you believe the buffet has a massive section of peel your own fresh shrimp?
I would go there just for the delicious Brazilian barbecue meat and the shrimp and was in food heaven.
But last year it closed down and was no more.
That’s when I focused on cooking my own shrimp from frozen instead. I get a HUGE bag of shrimp from the wholesalers (where the restaurants get theirs) and cook them in either the air fryer or the instant pot.
How Do You Cook Frozen Shrimp Quickly?
You cook your frozen shrimp in the instant pot or the air fryer.
I have experimented a LOT with frozen shrimp in the instant pot and the air fryer lately and found that they are both FAST for cooking frozen shrimp.
When I was doing our air fryer frozen steak, I wanted surf and turf. I added a few frozen shrimp to the air fryer and they were cooked in 8 minutes.
The instant pot shrimp cook time is quicker but you must take into account the time to go to pressure, when you can just dump them in the air fryer and come back when it beeps.
Can You Cook Frozen Shrimp In The Instant Pot?
Yes you can! Frozen shrimp in the instant pot is wonderful. You dump the shrimp in (with or without seasonings or marinades) do a quick pressure cook and you have perfectly cooked shrimp.
Cooking Frozen Shrimp In Instant Pot
When we are cooking frozen shrimp in the instant pot it is all about using peeled and precooked frozen shrimp.
You can cook more than us, depending on how many people you are feeding.
But the basic principle is that the instant pot can often leave food bland and by cooking shrimp in a marinade it can taste AMAZING.
What I do is load frozen shrimp into a small pizza pan or springform pan. Add to it white wine, garlic, butter and cajun seasoning. Then it will pressure cook in the flavours and you can then use this as seafood stock for a future instant pot recipe.
How To Instant Pot Frozen Shrimp?
The quick version of cooking frozen shrimp in the instant pot goes as follows:
- Pour a cup of water into your instant pot.
- Add the trivet.
- Toss your shrimp in a marinade and place in a container.
- Add the container to your trivet.
- Pressure cook + serve.
There is a little more to it than that, but those are the simple basics!
How Long To Instant Pot Frozen Shrimp?
The instant pot frozen shrimp cook time is 0 minutes. If you have not yet done zero minutes, it means when you manually set the time you take it down to zero.
Then the cook time is the time it takes the instant pot frozen shrimp to go to pressure.
It beeps, you manually release pressure by doing a quick pressure release.
Then you are done!

Don’t forget the shrimp cocktail! You can make a big batch of instant pot frozen shrimp and then use it for making shrimp cocktail for a crowd.
Perfect for potlucks or for a starter when you are doing dinner parties.
Instant Pot Frozen Shrimp
- Peel garlic cloves. But don’t mince them and load into your instant pot pan. Add to the pan butter, wine, and shrimp. Mix.
- Pour a cup of water (240ml) into the bottom of your instant pot inner pot. Add the trivet and layer the pan onto the trivet. Cook for 0 minutes on manual or pressure cook button.
- When it beeps do quick pressure release and remove the shrimp from the instant pot.
- Load onto plates with a little of the marinade and reserve leftover marinade for your next seafood dish.
