Instant Pot Chinese Fried Rice
Just like most people I love Chinese food. I was lucky enough to have a Chinese takeaway the street behind where I lived when I was growing up.
It is still there now!
When I first went when I was 10 I would get excited over prawn crackers and sweet and sour sauce.
But as I got older my taste changed to chow mein and egg fried rice dishes. I could fill myself up on these and wished I could eat them every day.
But sadly, they always made me bloated the day after and I am sure I just had to look at egg fried rice on a Chinese takeaway menu and I had gained 10 pounds.
When I got the chance to try out instant pot brown rice and was so pleased that it didn’t make me feel bloated, I was determined to make my old favourite Chinese fried rice in the instant pot using brown rice.
Today, is the result of a long time testing brown rice in the instant pot and transforming the brown rice into one of many favourite rice dishes.

Instant Pot Vegetarian Chinese Fried Rice
My dad used to make jokes about my mum when she had a favourite hairdresser. That what the hairdresser looked like, my mum looked like.

While most people think instant pot Chinese fried rice and add chicken, pork or shrimp, I am keeping it vegetarian today and focusing on the rice being the star of the dinner plate.

Cooking instant pot Chinese fried rice is EASY and after a quick sauté, ingredients are dumped into the instant pot, you return later to perfectly cooked fluffy Chinese fried rice.

- Sauté onion, ginger and garlic in the instant pot.
- Dump in the other ingredients.
- Mix and place the lid on the instant pot.
- Cook, fluff up the Chinese rice and serve.

Stir Fry In Instant Pot
Cooking instant pot fried rice is like making a stir fry in the instant pot. The flavours are there, the texture is there, the taste is there, but it’s a lot more hands free way of doing a stir fry.
You don’t have to keep stirring it or waiting to see if it is done. Instead you follow our cooking times formula for Chinese fried rice, and it is perfect every single time.
Healthy Chinese Style Instant Pot Brown Fried Rice
When you make a Chinese style instant pot brown fried rice, you can choose how healthy or unhealthy you have it.
My readers asked me to show them how to make instant pot brown fried rice using packet sauce mix.
Such as these Blue Dragon sauce mixes. BUT the Chinese sauce mixes are the only unhealthy ingredient in this recipe.
Therefore, if you want to make it healthier, use your own healthy Chinese sauce or make your own.
I love to mix Chinese 5 Spice, honey, garlic, ginger and soy sauce together. It is what we use on our slow cooker Chinese spare ribs and what we use in a lot of our Chinese recipes.
Or you might have your own mix that you have used for many, many years.
Instant Pot Chinese Fried Rice
Instant Pot Fried Rice Recipe Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Brown Rice
- 1.25 Cups Vegetable Stock
- 1 Tsp Garlic Puree
- 1 Tsp Ginger Puree
- 1 Small White Onion
- 1 Cup Frozen Peas
- 2 Medium Carrots
- 2 Tsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Blue Dragon Oyster Sauce With Spring Onion
- Salt & Pepper
- Peel and thinly dice your onion and load it into the instant pot pressure cooker. Click sauté and add a little extra virgin olive oil. As it heats up peel and grate your ginger and garlic. Sauté your onion for 2-3 minutes or until the onion starts to change colour. Cancel sauté. Add in ginger and garlic and stir for a couple of minutes.
- Rinse and pour in your brown rice.
- Add in your stock.
- Peel and dice your carrot into small bite size pieces.
- Add in everything else, stir and place the lid on the instant pot.
- Set the valve to sealing and the cook time to 18 minutes on manual pressure cook.
- After 18 minutes cook time allow for 5 minutes natural pressure release and then remove any excess pressure.
- Fluff up the fried rice with a fork and serve.

Every time i have tried brown rice in the instant pot it has gone wrong. But this has yet to fail and is easy to adapt to favourite sauces.
