Cooplands Bakery
Did you have a favourite bakery from childhood that you still love today?
I did and it was Cooplands, which is also known as the second largest bakery brand in the UK.
We didn’t have one in our local town and would hop on the train through to Scarborough for our Cooplands fix.
In Scarborough there would be a few options and it was amazing to go in the bakery, buy a Cooplands sausage roll and walk around Scarborough with one in a napkin.
Though the best moment in Scarborough was going to the upstairs café and having a warm sausage roll with chips and gravy. Now I am licking my lips just thinking about that.
Fast forward about 25 years I am back living in Yorkshire, and I have two Cooplands bakeries in my local town plus the café and now to really help me with my Cooplands cravings, we have frozen Cooplands baked goods in Heron.
Today, I wanted to show you how to cook from frozen Heron’s Cooplands range, as well as reheat pasties in the air fryer that you have just bought in their bakery.
Plus, as well as our free newsletter, we also have a free air fryer mini course. It is ideal for air fryer beginners or those that want to get more confident with their air fryer. The free course runs for 5 days with a new lesson delivered each day to your inbox.
What Is Cooplands?
If you have not heard of Cooplands, it is the BEST (in my opinion) British bakery. It sells classic baked goods such as sausage rolls, pasties, cakes and so much more. Though my personal favourite is between their sausage rolls and their traditional pasties.
If you live in Yorkshire and love a homemade bakery, the chances are you have been there frequently.
What Cooplands Bakery Items Can You Air Fry?
Any of the Cooplands bakery items that you would reheat in the microwave, bake in the oven can be cooked or reheated in the air fryer.
Our favourite for cooking in the air fryer is the Cooplands cheese straws and the worst is reheating the traditional pasty.
That is because the traditional pasty is very big, and it feels like it takes an eternity to get it piping hot in the centre.
Cooplands At Heron
Also note, the frozen food we are cooking in the air fryer is from Heron. They are now stocking exclusively several Cooplands food.
They are bought frozen and uncooked and then you can cook them from frozen in the air fryer. Just like we have done with our Cooplands cheese straws like you see below:
And then the best way to think about it, is like you have prepped your baked goods, but not cooked them and then loaded them into the freezer and they taste just like Cooplands from their bakery.
Cooplands Frozen Foods
These above are the frozen foods we bought from Heron with the familiar Cooplands logo on them.
It included:
- Cooplands Apple Turnovers
- Cooplands Cheese & Onion Pasties
- Cooplands Cheese Straws
- Cooplands Corned Beef & Potato Pasties
We placed each of them one by one into the air fryer basket and cooked from frozen and tested the air fryer cook times for you.
#1 Cooplands Cheese Straws
- Cook Time: 6 Minutes
- Temperature: 180c/360f
We also recommend that you add egg wash and you spread them out, as its easy for them to become stuck together through the air frying process.
#2 Cooplands Cheese & Onion Pasties
- Cook Time: 13 Minutes
- Temperature: 180c/360f
We also recommend that you add the egg wash halfway through cooking and that you increase the temperature to 200c/400f for the last 5 minutes of cooking time.
#3 Cooplands Corned Beef & Potato Pasties
- Cook Time: 13 Minutes
- Temperature: 180c/360f
The time and temp are the same for corned beef and potato pasties, as it is for cheese and onion. My recommendation is to keep this time and temp and use it on any pasties you are cooking from frozen in the air fryer.
#4 Cooplands Apple Turnovers
- Cook Time: 13 Minutes
- Temperature: 180c/360f
The time and temp for apple turnovers is the same as the savoury pasties. But what I love to add with the apple turnovers is a sprinkling of sugar. This really makes the texture like what Cooplands bakery sweet treats are like and gives it the wow factor.
And that is how easy and simple the cook times and temperatures are for Cooplands frozen produce. Of course, it works a million times better with an egg wash because it then gives it a golden glow.
But apart from that there is not much to it.
So next, lets talk about reheating Cooplands bakery items in the air fryer.
Reheating Cooplands In Air Fryer
I went to my local Cooplands and bought:
- Cooplands Traditional Pasty
- Cooplands Corned Beef Pasty
- Cooplands Cheese & Onion Pasty
I then placed the three items together into the air fryer basket and used the Cooplands paper bag.
The paper bag would then be the covering for the air fryer so that it wouldn’t get covered in crumbs.
- I then did 12 minutes at 160c/320f and the two smaller pasties were cooked through.
- Then I did an extra 6 minutes for the traditional pasty at the same temperature.
That means it was a total of 18 minutes to reheat traditional pasties in the air fryer. My takeaway from this is that I could do it 8 times quicker in the microwave, but with the microwave it goes soggy, yet in the air fryer its like its just come out of the bakery.
Cooplands In The Air Fryer Final Thoughts
I didn’t take much convincing to cook Cooplands food in the air fryer and found that it was all incredibly delicious.
It was annoying how long it was to reheat a traditional pasty in the air fryer, but still worth the effort.
But I felt the best thing was how delicious the Cooplands cheese straws were in the air fryer. Now they were the kind of thing I will go into Heron just to buy!
