If you follow RecipeThis.com you will know that we are parents to 3 kids with no family to help us out. Our youngest two have not started nursery yet and our eldest is at college.
As well as this running RecipeThis.com is a full-time business with many 12 hour days and often me and the hubby donโt get a day off together for months.
We will work shifts.
One of us will be in the office, while the other is with the kids.
We love it. We love the fact we get to have lots of one on one time with our kids and that we work around food, but it is still very tiring.
By the end of the day we are both so tired and we want to be in and out of the kitchen and sat back on the sofa in record time. That is why my pressure cooker taco meat is the healthy lifesaving Instant Pot recipe that every family needs in their lives.
Pressure Cooker Taco Meat Ingredients
Hands on heart I had never heard of tacos or taco meat or Instant Pots until I started hanging out with American food bloggers. It was just not a food I had heard of. But after I had tried tacos and then learnt how to make taco meat in the Instant Pot Pressure Cooker I was truly hooked.
I loved most the simplicity around pressure cooker taco meat. The fact that I could use frozen taco meat and still have my taco filling cooked in just a few short minutes.
The main ingredients of my pressure cooker frozen taco meat are:
- Frozen Minced Beef (aka ground beef)
- Olive Oil
- Taco Seasoning
Isnโt this fantastic? Just grab the olive oil and the taco seasoning from the pantry and some frozen mince and youโre all set. Then once the taco meat is cooked, use it however you like. Fill taco shells or have it as a one pot taco bowls recipe.

Pressure Cooker Frozen Taco Meat Hacks
It can be really daunting to cook frozen meat in the Instant Pot. There is a fear it will be undercooked, it will be dry or that it will be a health risk.
Here are a few hacks to remember before making pressure cooker frozen taco meat:
Coconut milk Is Amazing โ Just by adding a very small amount of coconut milk at the end can give such an amazing texture without that feeling of dryness.
It doesnโt matter if the taco meat is still slightly frozen โ It often depends on the shape and size of your ground mince to how cooked it will be in the middle.
We found 500g (nearly 1lb) of meat was almost cooked. Just a slight bit of pink in the centre. But because you will be bashing at it for a couple of minutes on sautรฉ, that it will finish cooking then.
I canโt get taco seasoning โ We have that problem a lot and often add a selection of seasonings to our Instant Pot rather than a ready-made taco seasoning mix.
To make your own taco seasoning add a teaspoon each of cumin, paprika, garlic and onion powder, salt and pepper. Along with a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Easy draining โ Because youโre resting the taco meat on the shelf to drain the water, you can lift out the shelf with the meat still on it and quickly remove the water. Then add the meat back in directly into the inner pot.
Lean taco meat works best โ We use ButcherBox for our ground meat as it is nice and lean and gives you a much nicer end result with your taco meat. Avoid really cheap mince as it tends to carry a lot of fat.
