Chicken Pie Maker Recipe
We all have that go to pie, don’t we? The sort that we would cook our family the most and no matter how times you ate it, you never got bored of it.
That is me with a creamy chicken pie.
You can mix and match ingredients, use up leftovers, create a creamy sauce and then you have the perfect pie. Plus, there are so many different versions of chicken pie you will never get bored.
The first time I heard about the pie maker was from a Recipe This reader called Teresa.
She was never a fan of vegetables, and the only vegetable she would eat was mushroom and used to make lots of chicken and mushroom pies in the pie maker.
That was 2 years ago and here I am today with pie maker week, making yummy creamy chicken pies in the pie maker. And thank you Teresa for first introducing me to them and making me want to make little chicken pies in the pie maker.
My Breville Pie Maker
A few months ago, I saw a Breville Pie Maker for sale in one of the Facebook Groups. They only wanted £5 for it, and I jumped at the chance to buy one, and bring it home.
I had looked for months for one of those Aussie pie makers that does 4 pies at once but couldn’t find one anywhere and opted for this 2 pie Breville Pie Magic instead.
This week is all about a week of me and my new pie maker. What I have made with my pie maker, tips, tricks, and the different fillings I have used. Yesterday I showed you how to make pie maker meat pie, the day before it was pie maker quiche and today its all about my chicken pie maker recipe.
If you are new to the pie maker, do check out our pie maker recipes category and I am sure beyond this week we will be adding even more.
Creamy Chicken Pie
When I was learning to cook (way back as an 18 year old trying to impress my chef boyfriend), I didn’t know the shortcuts in cooking.
I believed that to make a lasagne for example that you had to have 2 pans running, one for the mince and one for the cheese sauce. Then you had your oven dish for baking the lasagne in and way too much washing up.
The same for making a creamy chicken pie.
It always felt like it took forever to make the cheese sauce.
Fast forward many years and I have learnt a lot of cooking hacks including easy creamy sauces made without flour and without butter.
The sort you can stir in, to some just cooked chicken and you have a chicken pie filling.
That is the kind of sauce I am going to be showing you how to make today for your chicken pie maker recipe. You can then mix and match extras so that if you want chicken and mushroom pie or chicken and leek pie, its easy for you to do so.
How Do I Thicken My Chicken Pie Filling?
There are a few ways to thicken your chicken pie without the need for flour or butter.
My favourite is to mix cream cheese such as Philadelphia Light with a little semi skimmed milk and it will make a creamy pie sauce.
The second option is if making a chicken and mushroom pie, is to use the mushrooms for the sauce. Blend some of the mushrooms and mix it with some cream cheese and again wonderful creamy sauce.
The third option, especially if your pie sauce is watery, is to blend part of the filling such as a piece of potato, some chicken, or some carrots. Then stir and you will have rescued your pie filling.
And of course, instead of cream cheese you could also use sour cream, crème fraiche or another favourite cream for cooking with.
Does Puff Pastry Work In A Pie Maker?
Yes, it sure does. Puff pastry is fantastic with the pie maker and what we recommend for the lids of your pies.
Nothing looks better, than a pie made with puff pastry.
Can You Use Shortcut Pastry In A Pie Maker?
Yes, you can. You can use ANY pastry in a pie maker or swap pie for Weight Watchers Wraps to reduce the calories.
I recommend for the best creamy chicken pie recipe that you opt for a homemade shortcrust pastry bottom and then a puff pastry lid.
Can You Blind Bake Pastry In A Pie Maker?
Yes, you can. But unless you are doing a no bake sweet treat, you really don’t need to. I have found that the pastry cooks at the speed of the filling and its wonderful for dumping quickly into your pie maker.

Creamy Chicken Pie Recipe Ingredients
Pastry – I use our pie crust for the bottom of my chicken pies and then a puff pastry lid. You can do the same all go all shortcrust or go all puff pastry.
Filling – Below I will run through step by step instructions for making our creamy chicken pie filling with the air fryer. But main ingredients include chicken thighs (boneless and skinless), leftover veggies, milk, cream cheese, frozen peas, and white wine.
Seasoning – Then for seasoning your pie maker chicken and vegetable pies I love to keep it simple with salt, pepper, and parsley.
Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this pie maker chicken pie recipe it has just been our Breville Pie Maker. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of mini pie recipes.
Creamy Sauce For Chicken Pie
Before I dive into making chicken pie in the pie maker, I want to start by showing you a quick way to make the chicken pie filling with your air fryer.
You start by loading boneless and skinless chicken thighs into the air fryer and seasoning well with salt, pepper, and parsley.
After a quick air fry, the chicken is chopped and loaded into a bowl with frozen peas, leftover veggies, cream cheese and milk and is mixed with a fork.
You then have a creamy sauce for your chicken pie as well as the pie filling.
You can also use leftover rotisserie chicken instead or use this pie maker recipe as a way to use up your roast chicken dinner.
How To Make Chicken Pie In Pie Maker?
- Filling. I recommend you start by making your chicken pie filling. Though if you are using leftover chicken, then this step will be much quicker. I recommend air frying your chicken thighs for 12 minutes and then dicing or shredding ready for your pies.
- Mix. Mix your chicken with frozen peas, cream cheese, milk, and white wine to create a creamy chicken pie filling.
- Roll. Next roll out the pastry for the bottom and top of your mini pies. Add the bottom to the pie maker, add the filling, then add the top and then add your egg wash.
- Cook. Then cook until you have golden mini chicken pies. This took approximately 12 minutes with our Breville pie maker chicken pie recipe.
And I am sure you can see now how easy it is to cook chicken pies in the pie maker and why I have fallen in love with my new, super cheap kitchen gadget.
Chicken Pies In Pie Maker
If you are looking for chicken pie maker recipes, then note, you can make many variations to our recipe.
Kind of think of our chicken pie pie maker recipe as your base and then mix and match. Below are a few examples of what you could do with your chicken pie.
Pie Maker Chicken & Leek Pie – Add in instant pot steamed leeks for a quick pie maker filling. Though leeks can be watery so do get rid of any excess water before adding to your pies.
Pie Maker Chicken & Mushroom Pie – Swap the leftover veggies for just mushroom and you will love how creamy the sauce is with the mushrooms.
Pie Maker Chicken & Corn Pie – I would consider chicken and corn pie in the pie maker to be the absolute easiest. You would cook your chicken and then add frozen sweetcorn to your mixing bowl and mix everything together. So yummy.
How Long Do You Cook Pies In A Breville Pie Maker?
I have tried several different pies in my Breville Pie Maker and have found the ultimate cook time is 12 minutes for pies and 8 minutes for things without a lid such as quiches.
But this is also dependant on how full your pies are, so expect somewhere between 10 and 13 minutes.
Or because we had no cook times to go on, when we first used our pie maker, we just checked on them when the lovely pie smells hit our kitchen!
Pie Maker Chicken Pie Tips & Tricks
- Always fill the pie maker to ¾ full. Otherwise, you will end up with the filling coming out and making a lot of mess.
- Experiment with the cookie cutters you have and then find your ideal one that you can use for the perfect pie. We tried about four until we found our perfect one.
- Any brand of pie maker will work well. We have Breville but there are so many to choose from.
- Always snip with a pair of scissors at the top of your pie lid. This will help your pies breathe and cook through during the cooking process.
- Pie makers get very hot, don’t allow children to touch it after use.
Interesting Pie Maker Trick – When doing batch 2 your pie maker will still be red hot. Don’t add the next batch of pastry until your filling is ready. Or you will end up with the bottom of your pie cooking much faster than the top.
Can you freeze pie maker pies? Yes, you can. But only if you are not using leftover meat. Because if you are, meat can only be reheated once. The freezer and reheat method of pies does work well with ones without meat or those you would normally have cold.
Your chicken pie pie maker recipe is below, note you can print it out with or without photos, adjust servings, or click between metric and imperial depending on where you are in the world.

Yum, very good. My daughter is kinda picky and asked for more seasonings or pepper flakes next time. Husband loved it, as did I. I have to say, it was quite tasty, but if not seasoned enough will not appeal to people who like their food to have a little zip. That’s why we always have a bottle of hot sauce around.
I have been using my pie maker for years but it is a bit bigger than yours. Still just 2 pies but larger pies and your chicken filling was delish, made 2 and then made another 2 just so good. Thank you.
