Easy Grilled Cheese
Many memories from childhood involve grilled cheese. It was one of my favourites, if not my biggest favourite comfort food growing up.
My mum would usually make her version of an easy grilled cheese in the oven under the grill with sliced tomatoes on top.
It was delicious and I would always have some mayonnaise on the side to dunk in.
But aged 13 it was a lovely school friend of mine called Jodi, that introduced me to the best ever grilled cheese.
She would go home for her lunch (she lived across the road from school) whilst her parents was at work and would always fix herself some microwave grilled cheese.
It was more creative than mine and would involve a double decker with 3 layers of bread and some onions on top.
It was so yummy and that soon became the microwave grilled cheese that I made time and time again.
Whilst I now mainly have air fryer grilled cheese, its nice to go back to childhood with this easy grilled cheese recipe cooked in the microwave in JUST 2 minutes.
Can You Make Grilled Cheese In The Microwave?
Yes, you can. It is super easy to make grilled cheese in the microwave. Though note, it is the not the best grilled cheese, that award goes to the air fryer or the toastie machine, but it makes a delicious quick alternative.
Can You Make Cheese On Toast In The Microwave?
Yes, you can. Microwave cheese on toast and microwave grilled cheese are one of the same.
Us Brits often refer to it as cheese on toast, whilst Americans its always grilled cheese.
No matter which one you call it, its very quick and easy in the microwave.
Can You Microwave Mayo On A Sandwich?
Yes, you can. Its really easy to microwave with mayo in your sandwich and who doesn’t love mayonnaise in their sandwiches.
What I recommend, is when making your grilled cheese is that after adding the cheese slices and the tomato, that you add some mayo to the top.
Then place the extra slice of bread over it and then you have a yummy cheese sandwich that is ready to be heated up in the microwave.

Grilled Cheese In Microwave Ingredients
Bread – I used Warburtons because there is no greater bread for your grilled cheese in the microwave. Though of course, you can use whatever bread you have in.
Cheese – For my melted cheese sandwich, it is all about the cheese and I went with red Leicester cheese slices from Tesco’s. They are yummy and make the best cheese on toast.
Tomato – A grilled cheese is not the same without the tomatoes. A couple of slices on top of each layer of cheese is perfect.
Mayonnaise – I also love to add in some mayonnaise or some salad cream or sometimes both. You could swap this for ketchup or barbecue sauce.
Basil – Then for that wonderful grilled cheese Starbucks taste, I recommend some dried basil (or fresh if you have it) into your sandwich too.
Optional – I know some love it and some hate it. I like to spread margarine or butter onto my bread.
Then for the kitchen gadgets that we have used in this grilled cheese microwave recipe it has just been our Panasonic Microwave Oven. We have this one and its wonderful for many types of microwave recipes.

I was doubtful about this recipe as in my experience some things just do not go in the microwave. I decided to give it a try, however, and as expected the bread came out soggy but it was fairly enjoyable and the basil and mayo gave it a great taste.
Probably wont do it in the microwave again, as I like the crispness of toast, but will use the basil and mayo when doing in the sandwich toaster.
I love a grilled cheese, well microwave cheese, the goosy cheesyness is just so delicious and it did not burn, thanks for the detailed instructions.
I absolutely loved this recipe. I had my doubts because the idea of a crispy crunchy bread is so ingrained in my head when I think of this type of sandwich, but it really works well, and is much quicker and easier to make when you’re in a rush. Less cleanup too!
I did however substitute for some black pepper instead of the basil, as I don’t like basil.
