Air Fryer Filipino Chicken Barbecue
As you view our air fryer Filipino chicken barbecue recipe on Recipe This and consider if this is a recipe you want to try out, you probably don’t realise what goes on behind the scenes to make this air fryer chicken recipe land on the internet.
There is me (Samantha) testing the recipe, photographing it with my Iphone, writing about it and researching what keywords it should be associated with.
There is Dominic (my husband) scheduling it and making sure that our site runs like clockwork.
Plus working hard on social media and many other aspects that go into Recipe This.
There is Kyle (our eldest son) working on the graphic design and any admin tasks that I need him to do.
There are our little ones (Sofia and Jorge) that will poke the food and wait patiently for the photos to be taken so that they can jump in and binge on our Filipino Chicken.
But what you might not know is that there is also a team of Filipinos working behind the scenes making sure everything runs like clockwork for us.
They help with admin, promoting posts, social media, our ebooks and so much more and I am truly grateful to them.
When I got sent a batch of Filipino Barbecue Marinade, I asked 5 of my Filipino assistants for their favourite Filipino recipe that could either be adapted for the air fryer or the instant pot.
The joint recommendation was Filipino Chicken Barbecue and I am so pleased to be sharing it with you today.
Transformed for the air fryer and one of the nicest air fryer chicken recipes that I have made, well according to Dominic!
Filipino Style Chicken Barbecue Marinade
Can we start by discussing the delicious Filipino style chicken barbecue marinade that we are using in this recipe?
You can of course make your own but being gifted a bottle of already made Filipino marinade made my job a lot easier.
What I did was chop the chicken legs into thighs and drumsticks and loaded them into a mixing bowl.
Smothered them in Filipino style chicken barbecue marinade and left them in the fridge overnight.
Okay that is a white lie. Dominic chopped the chicken for me and then I added it to the bowl!!!!
It gave the marinade a good chance to settle on the chicken and the depth of flavour once air fried will be even better.
If you can’t get Filipino barbecue marinade where you live, then you can mix and match with what is local to you.
You could use a typical barbecue marinade or even a Chinese version. I love a sticky oyster sauce marinade on my chicken legs, plus sweet and sour is also delicious.
Why Cook Barbecue Chicken In The Air Fryer?
Can I say that barbecue food in the air fryer is the BUSINESS? That is tastes so good you will wonder why you didn’t make your favourite barbecue recipes in the air fryer years ago.
You can load your favourite barbecue chicken with marinade and cook it in the air fryer basket instead of on the barbecue grill.
It will still have that amazing chargrilled texture and you can load it into the air fryer, walk away and come back to it when it is cooked.
Filipino Chicken Barbecue Sauce
Another great thing about making Filipino barbecue chicken in the air fryer is using the leftover barbecue sauce.
You can save your leftover sauce into a small ramekin and then brush the top of the chicken when it is cooked. It will increase the sticky Filipino glaze and make it taste even better.
How To Cook Filipino Chicken Barbecue?
OMG making Filipino Chicken Barbecue is this SIMPLE:
- Load your chicken into a mixing bowl or zip loc bag with your Filipino barbecue marinade and marinade in the fridge overnight.
- Load the chicken into the air fryer basket, air fry and serve.
Filipino Chicken Barbecue Ingredients
There are just 2 ingredients in our Filipino chicken barbecue recipe:
- The Filipino BBQ Marinade
- Chicken Legs
The chicken legs are cut into drumsticks and thighs and then the marinade is loaded onto the chicken.
It reminds me of the Asian chicken drumsticks I used to buy from Marks & Spencers as a kid that the whole family was addicted to.
No wonder Dominic keeps reminding me how much he liked them and asking when we are having some more!
