Let’s cook a whole chicken in air fryer. Start by placing the whole chicken, breast side down, on a chopping board. Spray with olive oil into all the visible skin, then sprinkle half the mixed herbs over the chicken and season with salt and pepper. Transfer to the air fryer, breast side down.
Air fry at 180c/360f for 25 minutes and then flip the chicken over. The best way to do this is to place a fork in the cavity. Then spray the top with olive oil.
Sprinkle with the remaining dried seasoning, along with a generous sprinkle of salt and pepper.
Air fry at the same temperature for a further 20 minutes or until the chicken reads an internal temperature of 70c/160f or above.
Notes
Dual. If you have an air fryer dual (such as this one we have) we recommend instead making one of your sides in one drawer and then the whole chicken in the other. Then you can have a full meal ready together.Sizes. The whole chicken we used was a medium. You can fit up to an XL in your air fryer and because of this the air fryer chicken cooking time can vary between 45 minutes for a small one to 60 minutes for a large one.Spray. Make sure you follow our guide to oil usage because sprays with extras added in such as Frylight are not air fryer friendly. Please note This chicken time and temp guide was tested in our Philips Air Fryer (its this one). Air fryers vary so adjust if necessary, depending on the quality of your air fryer. Or consult the temperature test on page 18 of The Complete Air Fryer Cookbook.
