Welcome to my vertical kebab rotisserie review and here is the time to introduce you to kebab grills. Something that is also new to me.
Today I have the pleasure (as our first blog post of 2016) of starting the New Year with a home barbeque thanks to Callow Retail giving me the chance to review their amazing product.
But first of all let me fill you in on my history of kebabs and why they are constantly on our menu.
We live in Portugal and it is obsessed about serving meat with rice and salad. It’s the national food and it is cooked in many different ways. One of my favourite meals out is a kebab skewer hanging down with some of my favourite food on it. The personal favourite is a mix of prawns wrapped in bacon and chicken layers. Alternatively you can have steak layers followed by prawn. We would then have it served up with rice and salad and it was delicious.
You could then see this at a lot of restaurants (especially by the sea) and you often hear the tourists talking about how brilliant they are.
Then there is the Brazilian culture. Because it is the same language there are a lot of Brazilian expats living in Portugal. This has resulted in a lot of Brazilian restaurants. In these you’ll have meat sliced onto your plate via the waiters and it is absolutely delicious.
As a result I have become obsessed with kebab machines and have wanted one for ages. I finally got my wish in November and I have finally got around to using it!

Unfortunately Saturday night came and went and because we were so busy I have only just got around to it. And with it being New Years Day today it is my new year’s resolution to finally get it out and to try it out.

On a negative note – it is an electric guzzler so not very good for those of you that are into frugal living. Plus it only does five at once and you would expect an even number for when you want two each.
What I Made In My Vertical Kebab Rotisserie
When I got it out I really couldn’t decide what to make as the choice was overwhelming. In the end we decided on a chicken and courgette kebab with a nice marinade.
- 1 Medium Chicken Breast
- 1 Small Leek (cleaned)
- 50g Garlic & Herb Soft Cheese
- 1Tsp Tarragon
- 1Tsp Mixed Herbs
- Salt & Pepper
- In a mixing bowl add your soft cheese and seasonings.
- Chop up your leeks into traditional bite sized pieces. Do the same with your chicken.
- Place your chicken and leek in the bowl and mix well.
- Place the chicken and leeks onto skewers and turn the machine on.
- Cook for 25 minutes or until the leeks and chicken have a lovely golden colour.
