SaladPower Vegetable Juice Review

Welcome to the SaladPower Vegetable Juice review here at RecipeThis.com.

Let me firstly take you back to childhood and my favourite drinks growing up. It wasn’t like how it is today when kids drank a lot of water. It was the 90’s and it was all about the cordial and the orange squash. In fact it goes before that if that is when unnatural drinks really took off.

You would have cordial mixed with water and that would be the choice of drink for many, many people. It was so much a thing that if anyone suggested that you drink water then you would think they were the devil.

The cordial that I used to get would be sugar free, in which case people assumed it was good for you, when it was as far away as good for you as you could possibly get.

Then there was the flavoured lemonade. You would have pink lemonade and it tasted so good but again it was super bad for you.

It wasn’t until I moved to Portugal that I discovered that drinking began with water and that we should occasionally have other things but that water should rule.

Eventually we ditched our cordial habit for good old water and it is amazing how much better it has made us feel and how much it has quenched our thirst.

But there are many, many people out there just like us. Those that have only ever known cordial, have been brought up on it and then as an adult it is like an addiction come habit that needs to be broken.

This is exactly why I am so excited to be trying out SaladPower. The idea that there is something out there that is an alternative to water but isn’t going to fill your body with horrible chemicals at the same time.

Introducing The SaladPower Juices

Apart from orange cordial another of the big drink addictions growing up has always been V8 juice. Those trusted cans of vegetable juice that you could down in one and that would want you having more and more.

I would have them a lot and when I was out for dinner tomato juice would often be the drink that I would have.

But even though V8 always tasted good you have to admit that it is just yet another processed drink choice and that there is better out there for us all.

This especially becomes apparent when you read this:

So when I saw the SaladPower range I starred at them for a bit. Well for a long time. I would even go as far to say that I was a crazy stalker that looked at the beautiful packaging and the logo and wanted to see if there was better out there for me.

Where I could have all those favourite salad items into one carton of juice and actually love it.

You can get:

  • Veggies & Apple
  • Just Veggies
  • Veggies & Mango
  • Veggies & Pineapple

They’re also served cold so are perfect for quenching your thirst this summer. Or if you are like what I used to be like (and didn’t eat enough vegetables) how about having them for breakfast as a vegetable or fruit kick?

Also when I was growing up, they always gave you really weird drinks when you were poorly. It was like drink this and it will really help you get better and they were horrible.

But when you look at the levels of vitamins in these cartons, you could tell your parents and grandparents to dish these out to you instead.

SaladPower Sugar Fight

It feels like over the years (well since I became a healthy Paleo follower) that I was on a fight with all these different companies that are trying to get you to buy juices that are very high in sugar and are more fruit than vegetables.

You are sold on the fancy packaging such as something saying that it has x amount of fruits so you think it must be good for you. Then you see the small print and realise that a fruit juice has more sugar in it that an entire chocolate cake.

I actually spoke to SaladPower and asked them what their inspiration for starting SaladPower was and this is what they said to us:

“SaladPower was started by two friends from NYC that were looking for a juice will less sugar, calories and more vegetable nutrition. They noticed that almost all juices available to them were loaded with fruit juice and barely had any vegetables! So they decided to make a juice that did something different: always put veggies first. By doing this, every SaladPower is loaded with vegetable nutrition and has less sugar and calories than other juices!”

This really does ring true about my own opinions on fruit juices and how we need more vegetables in them. Just think about the grocery shopping we all do and our eating habits. We focus our attention on eating loads of vegetables in our diet and we will always eat more vegetables than fruit so why are many juices too obsessed with fruit?

This SaladPower Vegetable Juice is one of those great fixes for all times of the year. You can imagine taking it with you on a cycling trip, to the beach, to the park, to school or even to someone that you are visiting in hospital.

Also how about having some in the fridge instead of orange cordial and having it as your go to when you are not in the mood for water.

Here are 10 reasons to buy SaladPower:

  • All-natural ingredients
  • Contains almost three servings of vegetables
  • Do not require a lot of space in the fridge
  • Easy to take with you
  • Four flavours for variety
  • Gluten-free
  • No added sugar
  • No GMOs
  • Resealable containers
  • Suitable for Paleo and vegan diets

Our verdict – SaladPower touts its benefits as being non-GMO, Paleo and vegan-friendly, and all-natural ingredients. It delivers fully on each of those benefits. Plus, the drinks are so easy to carry with you. Each package has an easy-to-open screw top and offers 2.75 servings of veggies in just 11.1 ounces. Calorie counts are not high either with the Just Veggies coming in at 50 calories, Veggies & Apples coming in at 95, Veggies & Pineapple at 125, and Veggies & Mango at 130.

For so few calories, you get a powerful punch of vitamins and minerals. Vitamin A counts go as high as 223% in the fruit varieties and Just Veggies offers a full 222%. Vitamin C is even better at 2877 to 4890%. Finally, there’s plenty of potassium at 17% to 26%.

If your kids are hesitant at eating their vegetables, SaladPower is perfect! Not only is it tasty, but each variety is packed with veggies, including:

  • Carrot
  • Celery
  • Cucumber
  • Green pepper
  • Kale
  • Spinach
  • Tomato

I found that the Veggies & Mango and Veggies & Pineapple were the best of the four with the pineapple and mango taking over as the predominant flavour. For the Just Veggies, the green pepper and tomatoes shared the spotlight, while the green pepper stood out in the Veggies & Apple. I find myself loving these for a quick pick-me-up during a rushed lunch hour at work and know they’d fit well into any packed lunch for school.

Best Feature – We loved the flavour of the veggie only carton. We felt that if you were having a stew that it would make an amazing vegetable stock in your dish. Especially if you’re vegan and are looking for something that is completely plant based.

Overall – SaladPower surprised me. While I definitely preferred certain flavours over others, I am surprised at how great a nutritious beverage tasted. I’m a big V-8 fan, but it’s not something I’ll drink often because of the added salt. SaladPower has nothing added that makes me leery of drinking it regularly.
