Welcome to our review for the Chocolate And Love Organic Dark Chocolate.
I can’t remember the first time I had chocolate. All I do know, is that unless I am really ill I won’t go a day without some sort of chocolate. Even when I was going through my weight loss journey I would always set aside some spare calories for some dark chocolate.
After all, life should always revolve around some chocolate.
Actually maybe that is the reason why I am not stick thin like my kids friends mums that I meet. They have super skinny BMI’s and wear clothes about three sizes smaller than me. But like Bridget Jones life would be far too boring if I didn’t eat chocolate and cake oh and don’t get me started about ice cream.
So when I get the chance to review chocolate for the blog, something that I may add never happens often enough I jump at the opportunity. I am like “pick me I am here I NEED chocolate”.
Chocolate And Love Organic Dark Chocolate
There was actually a time when I would dread trying out organic dark chocolate. That is because I was once on Paleo (well I try my best to follow it most of the time when I have run out of bread, cheese and chocolate) and most of the Paleo chocolate was horrible.
But when our delivery arrived from chocolate and love, I had no excitement opening the box, I just had Dominic telling me how this nice chocolate had come and I better hurry up if I want some!
So I dig in and had 7 different flavours to choose from. I am not a coffee fan so pass on the coffee flavour without trying it.
This leaves me 6 to choose from:
- Dark chocolate with orange
- Dark chocolate with mint crunch
- Single origin dark chocolate
- Creamy dark
- Sea salt and caramel
- Dark chocolate
They range from being 55% to 80% cocoa and give you a whole new range of dark chocolate to think about. But when you are buying them in packs of chocolate bars on Amazon it can be overwhelming to decide which one is good and which one is for you. So I have decided to do a countdown of our favourite first so that you can make a chocolate eating decision!
#1 – Dark chocolate with orange
OMG why is it I am thinking about Terry’s Chocolate Orange and Dawn French and her 90’s advert “its not Terry’s it is mine”?. Well Terry’s is seriously bad for you, this is good for you chocolate and I like this just as much. I could buy this everyday forever and forget that it is dark chocolate. So there I am with my eyes closed and I am thinking this is naughty chocolate, this can’t possibly be dark. Then the moment is lost with the noise of my 16th month old daughter who is waving her hand around insisting that I hand it over!
#2 – Dark chocolate with mint crunch
It was actually a hard decision for the role of second place. But in the end the mint won! Probably because I love mint chocolate but also because like #1 it really doesn’t taste like it is organic or dark, it just tastes like amazing chocolate. It also would make a brilliant chocolate pudding if you grated some of this into it or onto a chocolate fondue.
#3 – Sea salt and caramel
Well this was a close contender for number #2!!! But in the end the lure of the mint won the contest. If you taste the sea salt and caramel you are suddenly back at those family fairs that you went to ask a kid. You know the sort – they had a big wheel, the dodgems, the waltzer, you won a fish that lived for a week and then you would eat lots of caramel delights and have the biggest sugar kick of the year. Well these sea salt and caramel chocolate bars remind me just of that. The taste is amazing and it is like someone has made you some homemade caramel.
#4 – Creamy dark
I am quite surprised by how nice this creamy dark chocolate is. After all, you have gone from a lot of different flavoured chocolate to the basic dark chocolate varieties. But this is really, really nice. I could eat this all day long and it gives a luxury flavour for each quarter of a square that you eat!
#5 – Dark chocolate
You don’t need more of an introduction to this other than to say that is a high quality dark chocolate. It tastes good; it leaves you satisfied without wanting to binge on loads of chocolate and best of all I don’t feel guilty for eating it!
#6 – Single origin dark chocolate
Okay so I didn’t taste the coffee chocolate because I hate the smell and taste of coffee. It doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with it, it is just personal preference. Well when I try the single origin dark chocolate I have a similar feeling. I don’t like the taste of it and it’s something I wont eat again. I pass it over to Dominic and he points out that it’s better than the similar level of dark by Lindt and by the brands we buy in the supermarket. Then the more I think about it the more I realise that anything over 70% dark, is just too much for me!
So there you have it. Six bars of organic dark chocolate and five of them (in my personal opinion) are out of this world. If I was to buy them again it would certainly be the top 4 as they were particularly amazing. We just need Amazon to package up the top 4 in packs big enough to satisfy my sweet tooth and then I will be a very happy chocolate lover!
