Welcome to a small cheese in Provence book review.
I spend a lot of time reviewing kitchen gadgets and grocery items for Recipe This but this is the first time when I have had the chance to swap all of those for a real book. Well an ebook in my case because I didn’t want to wait ages for the book!
Anyway the first thing I see is the ecover and don’t be put off by the way it looks:
As the first thing I thought of when I saw the ecover is that it looks like a really gripping romantic novel based in France. But what I am getting in fact is a really good recipe ebook. Based around goat cheese in your recipes.
What is goat cheese like?
Well this would of course by my first question before buying a recipe ebook about it. Well goats cheese is of course made from goats milk but it is much softer than many cheeses and the creation process is some what different.
Goats’ cheese is made by allowing the milk to naturally curdle and then draining and pressing the curds. It can also be used with the help of lemon juice and vinegar as an alternative way of making it.
Goats Cheese In France
The first time I ever had goats cheese I thought it was the most disgusting thing I had ever tried. It was back in the 80s and I was on holiday in France with my parents. My mum is the biggest cheese addict I have ever known. In fact she used to tell me that as a teenager she would spend her money on buying cheese.
She always has a cheese board for afters rather than a sweet pudding and lives for cheese. Whenever we were on holiday in France we were in that many cheese shops trying out all kinds of cheese. Many of them were just too strong for me and I was used to boring old English cheeses.
But I also think part of it was the fact that I was a teenager and I didn’t appreciate great flavours.
Goats Cheese In Portugal
Roll on 20 years and I absolutely worship goats cheese. It is a popular staple in the Portuguese diet. Hard English cheeses like Cheddar Cheese are unheard of and instead food is made with soft goats cheese.
This brings me to my favourite outside BBQ restaurant in Portugal. It serves Piri Piri Chicken with chips and salad and while you’re waiting for your food you snack on bread, goats’ cheese, pate and olives.
A Small Cheese In Provence Highlights
It just makes me love goats cheese more and more, so it now get my hands on Jeans recipe ebook and learn about using goats cheese in recipes is amazing. I can’t wait to try out her recipes and I will be sharing with you the results later in the month.
But lets talk more about the ebook first……first of all you get some fantastic introductions about food in France. Quite often you have recipes but you don’t really have a base for those recipes and you often feel like you are not learning the story that is behind them.
You also get lots of great recipes to choose from. I often only put 25 recipes in an ebook but here you have a lot more and so much variety.
I love her ebook and the way it is telling a story. Something that you would only get from someone that is already experienced in novels. I just wish there was more book authors that are going into the recipe field.
