Mashed Potatoes Ninja Foodi

My son calls it ma ma mash. Well, he did when he was four and he is now 19, and I always jokingly ask him if he wants some ma ma mash.

Mashed potatoes join lasagne as his favourite foods of all time.

He could eat mashed potatoes every day given the opportunity and just makes me promise that I never make them like his grandma made them.

She once made the error of making him smash and he was heartbroken that his favourite food was replaced with something out of a box.

He was 11 at the time, but he hasn’t forgotten.

After promising Kyle that no box of mash would ever be used, something I have never ever done, I pointed out that mashed potatoes in the Ninja Foodi are so SIMPLE that you don’t need to use a box version.

In fact, even if you are a stovetop person when it comes to mashed potatoes, this recipe will be a serious life changer.

Can You Cook Mashed Potatoes In The Ninja Foodi?

Yes, you can. Mashed potatoes in the Ninja Foodi are truly amazing!

Ninja Foodi mashed potatoes ticks so many boxes:

  • Less washing up – You are cooking the mashed potatoes in the same ninja pot that you are mixing them in.
  • No draining – We use just enough liquid to take the Ninja pressure cooker to pressure. This means that you don’t need to drain after cooking.
  • Easy to make – Forget the box when you can dump it in the Ninja and then quickly mash it when your Ninja Foodi beeps.
  • Stack – You can add a trivet and then cook something else above the mash at the same time. Such as meatloaf, chicken breasts etc.

How Do You Cook Mashed Potatoes In A Pressure Cooker?

The method for cooking mashed potatoes in a pressure cooker is very simple and it’s the same regardless of using the Ninja Foodi, Instant Pot, Pressure King Pro, or whichever brand you own.

Potatoes are loaded into the cooking pot and then seasoned and have liquid added.

They then pressure cooked and you then mash them like you would with stovetop boiled potatoes.

Can You Mash Potatoes In A Ninja Blender?

If you want to save time, you can also load your mashed potatoes into the Ninja Blender and let the blender do the mashing.

Blender mashed potatoes can be done in your Ninja Blender if you have one or what us Brits call a soup maker. But the problem I have with that, is that I can’t cook 2 kilos/4.4lbs of mashed potatoes at once!

How Do You Boil Potatoes In Ninja Foodi?

Now this is an interesting conversation, because there are two different ways to cook the potatoes in the ninja foodi for mashed potatoes. For example if you put them in the non-gadget world you would say one was boiled and one was steamed.

If you want boiled potatoes in the ninja foodi then you would place the potatoes in the bottom of the cooking pot, covered in water and then as they cook, the water dissolves creating a drain-free ninja foodi mashed potato.

However, cook them above in a steamer basket with water below the pot but not on the potatoes and that would be just like steaming potatoes.

If you are wondering what are BEST then I would say boiled for ease of mashing, but steamed is best for flavour.

Pressure Cooker Mashed Potatoes Without Steamer Basket

The boiled potatoes pressure cooker method is your best option if you want to pressure cook mashed potatoes without a steamer basket.

Instead, its like cooking potatoes for mash in a regular pan. You place potatoes into the cooking pot, add enough water so that they wont pressure cook dry and then add the lid and its 100% steamer basket free.

Best Potato For Mashed Potatoes

I try not to be too picky when it comes to the best potato for mashed potatoes, as I love to get the cheapest ones. But if you go too cheap on your potatoes for mash, it can result in dry mash that you would need to add extra milk to make better.

So, if you can, go with some nice potatoes from the supermarket and preference to Maris Piper if you can get them.

Ninja Foodi Mashed Potatoes Slimming World

You can also make these ninja foodi mashed potatoes on Slimming World. Simply use skimmed milk and swap butter for lightest Philadelphia and that is exactly how I made it when I was on Slimming World.

Mashed Potatoes In A Food Processor

Along with blender mashed potatoes, you can also make food processer mash.

It’s a great way to save you having to mash your potatoes once your potatoes are soft, then instead, load the just cooked mashed potatoes into the food processor, and let it do the hard work for you!

Mashed Potatoes Ninja Foodi Ingredients

Potatoes – Lets start with the potatoes as these are the base ingredient for our delicious mashed potatoes in ninja foodi. You can use any potatoes you like just make sure the skin is scrubbed if skin on, or that they are easy to peel.

Butter – Adding butter to mashed potatoes gives them a creamy and rich flavour. We recommend salted butter, though if you are going low-fat you can swap them for some light margarine.

Cheese – Adding cheese to your Ninja Foodi mashed potatoes takes them to a whole new level of deliciousness. Whether you opt for cheddar, Parmesan, or even a blend of different cheeses, this ingredient will bring an extra layer of flavour and gooey goodness.

Stock – To enhance the taste and depth of your mashed potatoes in ninja foodi, we recommend using pressure cooker veggie stock as part of your recipe. This stock adds extra flavour that perfectly complements the other ingredients.

Seasoning – Sprinkle in some salt, pepper, garlic powder or any other herbs and spices that you love. These little flavour boosters will elevate your Ninja Foodi mashed potatoes from ordinary to extraordinary.

Can You Recommend A Ninja Foodi?

I often get asked which kitchen gadgets I recommend and which one I use. For the Ninja Foodi we have this one. It doesn’t have as many bells and whistles compared to some of the newer models, but it does a great job.

Notes

Easy. Because I have cooked the potatoes for 15 minutes, they hardly require any mashing. Its just a quick mash and it is done.
Ratio. Note that I have used 600ml of liquid for 2 kilos of potatoes. This ensures that you have some liquid left over at the end to make your potatoes creamy, but not too much that requires a draining.
Stock. Mashed potatoes taste much better in the pressure cooker if you use stock rather than plain water. If you don’t have any stock use water that you have flavoured with lots of seasonings such as thyme, sage, rosemary etc,
